Object:

To determine (a) Volume of the given solid cylinder (b) capacity of the given hollow cylinder.
Working Formula:
Volume: Volume of a solid cylinder is given by:
Where R is the radius of the solid cylinder and L is the length of the solid cylinder.

Capacity:

Capacity or internal volume of a hollow cylinder is given by:
Where r is the internal radius of the hollow cylinder, h is the depth of the hollow cylinder.

Observations:

Least Count:

The smallest division on the main scale, S = 1mm.
Total number of divisions on vernier scale N = 10div.
L.C = S/N = 1mm/10 = o.1 mm = 0.01 cm

Calculation:

Volume of Solid Cylinder (V):

Mean Length, L = 2.69+2.68+2.66/3
L = 2.68 cm
Mean Diameter, D = 0.84+0.85+0.86/3
D = 0.85 cm
Radius, R = D/2 = 0.85/2 = 0.425 cm


Volume, 




V = 3.14 x 0.1806 x 2.68
V = 1.5199 cm


Capacity of the hollow cylinder (C):

Mean Depth, h = 7.21+7.24+7.25/3 = 21.7/3
H = 7.23 cm
Mean inner diameter, d = 1.01+1.02+1.03/3
D = 3.06/3 = 1.02 cm
Inner radius, r = d/2 = 1.02/2 = 0.51 cm
Capacity, 
C = 3.14 x 2.601 x 7.233
C = 5.9075 cm x cm x cm

Result:

Volume of the given Solid Cylinder = 1.5199
Capacity of the given hollow cylinder = 5.9075
