Two Conditions of Equilibrium Sources of Error and Precautions

Equilibrium Experiment Sources of Error:

  1. The metre scale may not be perfectly horizontal.
  2. The slotted weight used may not be accurate.
  3. Bending of the metre scale.
  4. Inaccuracy in the measurement of lengths.
  5. The wind or running fan at the place of experiment may cause error in observations.
  6. Human error.

Equilibrium Practical Precautions:

  1. The loops supporting the slotted weights should be vertical.
  2. The metre scale should always be horizontal and edgewise.
  3. Avoid the bending of the metre scale using appropriate weights.
  4. The moment arm should not be small.
